Patrons and Friends of Donaghpatrick National School.

We are delighted to announce that €11,950 to date has been raised through our very successful fundraiser ‘Buy a Block’. In 2013 two new classrooms and a S.E.N access room were built with a financial shortfall of €25,000, for which a Term Loan was secured. Our B.O.M has now cleared this term loan, almost 2 years ahead of schedule, by the funds raised through our ‘Buy a Block’ fundraiser. Therefore, construction of the two new classrooms and S.E.N access room in 2013 is now completely clear of all debt. We owe a lot of gratitude to all of you who generously contributed to this fundraiser from parents, to businesses, past pupils and staff. ‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine’

D.N.S is now undertaking further construction this year of a new classroom incorporating storeroom and ensuite toilets as well as a new office. Therefore, all future fundraising including, the Keane Family Concert in the Ard Rí House Hotel, Tuam on Friday May 6th and our ongoing ‘Buy a Block’ fundraiser will go towards the completion of this new project.

First Holy Communion.

Congratulations to our First Communicants who received the Blessed Eucharist for the first time on Saturday April 23rd at the Church of Mary Immaculate and St. Joseph, Caherlistrane.  They performed all their duties angelically and confidently.  Many thanks to their parents and teachers Mrs. O’Neill and Ms. O’Brien in preparing the children for the sacrament.  The choir was provided by children from Donaghpatrick N.S. and music by Evelyn Newell, Muireann Parke and Éimhín Cradock. Much appreciation to the children who participated in this choir to make the occasion so special.  Sincere thanks to Fr. Pat O’Brien for a most meaningful ceremony with his sermon based on children’s letters to Pope Francis.  Afterwards Fr. O’Brien presented Mrs. Geraghty with two copies of the book “Dear Pope Francis” for our school library.

Finally, all families were invited by our Parents’ Association to the school for lots of refreshments and goodies with an opportunity to have professional photographs taken by John Mc Mahon.  It was a most special day for all concerned full of sunshine and joy.

Active Week 2016

We have a jam packed active week planned for next week in DNS! Children from 3rd to 6th need to have gear and gum shields in every day next week. Children from 1st and 2nd need runners suitable for the pitch and a spare pair in case they get wet,  and their gum shields every day next week.  Monday we are focusing on cycling, children from junior infants to 2nd can bring in their helmet, if they have one, and children from 3rd to 6th can bring their bike and helmet to school.

Congratulations Confirmandi!

Congratulations to all the children in 5th and 6th class who were confirmed on March 4th. They did their school and their parents proud in the way they presented themselves. Thanks to Mr. Cradock and Fr. Pat who prepared the children for the sacrament. Many thanks also to Mrs. Parke and Evelyn who organised the choir and music which added beautifully to the day. Every child who had a job for the day did a superb job. The children put a lot of effort into choosing their Confirmation names and many of them chose a name after a family member. Children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation are reminded that tomorrow, Holy Thursday, they are invited to the church to have their feet washed and to serve if they wish.

First Confession

Second class celebrated the Sacrament of First Penance today, March 8th. Fr. O’Brien led a beautiful ceremony of prayer, forgiveness and hymns. They now look forward to April 23rd and their First Holy Communion.
